How to Make a Dragonfly Kite
Do you love the outdoors and have a passion for crafting? Then you will love making your own dragonfly kite! This fun and easy project is perfect for a summer afternoon and is sure to provide hours of entertainment for the whole family. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to make a dragonfly kite.
First, gather your materials. You will need a roll of crepe paper streamers, a roll of plastic wrap, a wooden dowel, scissors, a stapler, and some string. You can find all of these materials at your local craft store or online.
Next, cut two strips of crepe paper streamers that are about 8 inches wide and 6 feet long. These will be the wings of your dragonfly kite.
Now it’s time to assemble the body of the kite. Take your wooden dowel and cut it into four pieces, two that are 6 inches long and two that are 4 inches long. These will be the body and tail of the dragonfly. Take the two 6 inch pieces and attach them to the center of each crepe paper wing using the stapler.
Next, take the two 4 inch pieces and attach them to the bottom of the body using the stapler. These will be the legs of the dragonfly.
Now it’s time to add some color to your kite. Take the roll of plastic wrap and cut out a few circles in various shades of blue and green. These will be the dragonfly’s eyes. Attach them to the body using the stapler.
Now it’s time to attach the string to your dragonfly kite. Cut a piece of string that is about 15 feet long and tie it to the top of the body using a knot.
Your dragonfly kite is now ready to fly! To fly your kite, find a wide open space with plenty of room to run. Hold onto the string and run forward, allowing the kite to lift off the ground. As you run, the wind will catch the crepe paper wings and lift the kite into the air.
To steer your kite, gently pull on the string to make it rise or fall. You can also turn the kite by pulling on one side of the string or the other.
Flying a kite is a fun outdoor activity that is perfect for a summer afternoon. By following these simple steps, you can easily make your own dragonfly kite and enjoy hours of entertainment. So gather your materials and give it a try – the sky’s the limit!
